Vampiric Commonalities
All Vampires have heightened senses, reflexes, agility, strength and excellent healing abilities. Seductive hypnosis is another tool in the arsenal of both the Soleil and Nocturna, though not within the Necrotic. It does not last for long, either; it is typically used in order to feed and make their victim forget, if they're going to allow them to escape. Vampires are all extremely vulnerable to the element of fire. Though classified as 'immortal', they can also be destroyed through beheading, as well as by severe damage to the heart. While they can not procreate, their anatomy is otherwise fully functional where sex is concerned. No Vampire can eat or drink; not even to pretend the action. All Vampires are technically dead; their hearts do work, but only in the extent of processing the blood they are sustained upon. They are all cold to the touch unless they have fed well and recently; only then do they mimic the warmth of the living. The older they are, the harder it is for them to retain that warmth for very long. However, age also allows them to feed with less frequency and gives them more control over their blood lust. Younger Vampires are known to be ravenous and often times foolish within that. They can not feed upon animal blood or the blood of immortal creatures, dragons or any thing which does not fall under the umbrella of humanity. These are all poison to them. All Vampires are capable of making other Vampires, though it takes great self-control in the cases of the Soleil and Nocturna. In the case of the Necrotic, a mortal victim is either killed or becomes one of their ilk after an 'illness' that lasts the span of six rather gruesome nights. |
The Nocturna
Those that prowl the night. While all Vampires are vulnerable to fire, the Nocturna are particularly bothered by flame. Sunlight is another great danger to them; not only does it burn them to the point of destruction despite any extended age, but they are at the mercy of the dawn. No matter where they are when the sun rises, they are compelled to sleep. All Nocturna can dream, and the sleep is as restorative as it is for humans. Though holy relics, symbols and grounds will repel them immediately upon sight, the such will only physically harm them upon direct contact. Despite these weaknesses, they do have talents to help them navigate the night as apex predators. Around their fiftieth year as a Vampire, they each develop a single special talent outside of the commonalities known to all Vampires. (The Nocturna will develop one of the following only - Telekinesis, Levitation, Extended Hypnosis [they can make mortals serve them and their purposes], or Empathy [they can not cite the source of said emotion, only get a sense of the feeling.]) These Vampires tend to be solitary hunters, though they will sometimes share space with others of their kind. Typically, lovers will house together, or the household will consist of a Sire with fledglings. There are never more than three Nocturna per household. |
The Soleil
The Day-walkers. Despite their vulnerability to fire, they are not as immediately effected by it as the Necrotic and the Nocturna. Though they will burn in time, they will not burn as fast. Furthermore, the Soleil are able to walk in the sunlight. Indeed, they are the most able to blend in with the mortals they hunt. However, their curse makes it so they can not ever rest; they do not sleep, they do not dream, they do not get that restoration of their minds that the Nocturna and Necrotic get. The Soleil are also much more vulnerable to holy relics, symbols and grounds; the such will do them a great deal of harm upon sight if the holder of the relics or symbols are great in their faith. Otherwise, they will be repelled like their night dwelling brethren. Though they do not get an extra power from the length of fifty years like the Nocturna, the Soleil have a natural affinity for Seductive Hypnosis, and this extends slowly as they age - though they are not able to create mortal servants within the aspect of it. Like the Nocturna, there are never more than three Soleil in a household; they will also group in with a lover, or a Sire will house their fledglings with them. Otherwise, the Soleil are solitary. |
The Necrotic
The Beasts of the Night. Like the Nocturna, the Necrotic are confined to the nighttime hours. However, they are not controlled by the dawn; some may rest so early if they would like, while others may remain awake longer due to extended age. Despite this, they are not able to enter sunlight without burning to death from it. They also share the Nocturna's tendency to be first repelled by holy objects, relics and grounds - then are harmed through direct touch of them. Though they are able to camouflage their appearance with a very clever bit of glamour, so to blend in with humanity during their hunting - the Necrotic are rather hideous to behold in their true forms. Their hair falls out, and they are covered in bruised veins underneath graying, shriveled skin. Unlike the Nocturna and the Soleil, the Necrotic do not feed with the aid of seduction; they are also the most driven by their instincts. Very few are able to reason well when they are hungry; even their elders are very prone to being driven by their needs before their logic. Furthermore, instead of biting with fangs, they have an extended tongue with a protrusion on the end which is much like a stinger. The Necrotic lance their victims from a distance with this, and may either pull them close or drink from that length between them. These Vampires are also known to live in 'hives'; surviving in abandoned buildings or other such areas of a city where they can go unnoticed. There has been as many as ten members of a Necrotic hive at a time; though this branch of vampirism has the highest mortality rate among their kindred. |
Creating New Vampires
Soleil & Nocturna : This is an exercise of great self-control for these Vampires. Typically, the mortal victim is one they've come to love or have very strong feelings for over a small period of time. While they are controlled by the drive to kill those they love, it can be 'defeated' by draining the victim almost to the point of death - then quickly feeding the dying mortal the vampire's own blood in exchange. This will cause the mortal to be saved from total death, but will condemn them to live within the misery of the vampiric curse which has befallen their sire. Nocturna vampires will create other Nocturna vampires, and Soleil vampires will create a new Soleil - the two types can not create outside their own source.
Necrotic : Any time the Necrotic vampires feed, there is a chance that one of their victims will escape death. However, the victim will then be ill for the course of six nights. Through this illness, they will begin to morph, slowly, in to a Necrotic Vampire. The first - third night; they will begin to lose their hair, their skin will start to gray and shrivel, and their veins will start to bulge. The fourth night, their tongue will begin to elongate, slowly. The fifth night, they will feel new strength and a song-like presence in their head. The sixth night, they will follow the voice to their new home, and be greeted by their sire's hive. The old life will be forgotten, and their new life will have started; controlled by their instincts and the flow of the night. |
