Lycans
Once, many centuries ago, there was a group of witches who thought themselves totally at one with nature. Amused with this idea, the demon Asmodeus decided to grant them exactly what they believed. While the curse he placed upon them stripped them of the magic they knew, it also gave them abilities within the scheme of animalistic structures. As there were three different families of witches mixed in to this cult, there were three different types of animals which Asmodeus cursed them in the name of. Though the original lycanthropes are centuries dead and gone, their families still live on - the curse being able to transmit through breeding or through bite.

Lycanthropic Commonalities All Lycans have heightened senses and healing rates, though their other abilities tend to be aligned with the animal their curse was modeled on. While they are mortal, they do have long life-spans. Lycans can live up to 430 years of age; appearing to be in their 70s when natural death occurs. Therefore, it is safe to say that while Lycans age, they age rather slowly; spending several decades worth of time within the different age brackets seen in mortal life. The curse will manifest in those born with it around the age of ten; the first shift is always violent, but rarely is it remembered. Due to this, most Lycans tend to be solitary or to live in small family groups; they do not form large packs, and they do not keep a society of their own with secretive laws or ordinances. In fact, time has brought a great deal of shame to many born with the curse of Lycanthropy. Very few have ever learned to fully control their inner beast; they will shift to their secondary nature at the sway of the Full Moon or with very strong, wrathful emotions.

All Lycans have two forms; their human form, and the humanoid-beast form which takes on features of their specific inner-animal. Large, grotesque, fur-covered and wrathful; they are a true nightmare to behold. Many tend to forget their actions when their beast is in control, often times to their personal horror. Accidental bites aren't uncommon, but often a victim is mauled to death before the curse can transfer to them. Once the curse does take hold, a new Lycan will be able to locate the one who turned them by instinct; even if confusion tends to be paramount at that time. Instinct is a large factor between the ones who bite, and those who are bitten - sometimes, of course, both will be deaf to that inner voice. There's been many a sad tale due to this; one or the other life ending in violence stirred by a rabid inner-beast. Another pitfall of the Lycanthropic curse is an allergy to silver. However, all Lycans are immune to the various illnesses and diseases that plague humanity.

Were Wolves While Lycans tend to be solitary in many aspects, the Were Wolves do like to hunt together. However, this is typically done in family units; rarely do they try to include others. Furthermore, their numbers tend to be low in any given area - they do not want to draw attention to themselves. They do not have the powerhouse strength of the Bears or the ferocious cunning of the Tigers - but the Wolves make up for this in speed and stealth. The Were Wolves take their man-beast form from the appearance of Timber Wolves.

Were Bears Were Bears are highly solitary, though they tend to be less anti-social than the Tigers and do retain close family ties with those they care for - especially females. They are the most prone to being taken over by their inner-beast; rage is never far from a Bear's emotional state. However, they have the best chance for retaining their memories - almost as if they are trapped the entire time they are enraged. Bears also have the most strength of the Lycan groups, and they take their man-beast form from the appearance of Grizzly Bears.

Were Tigers The most solitary of the Lycans, the Tigers are also the most rare of the groups. While some do hold interest in the likes of family, most would rather be on their own. They have a very capable strength, but are the most cunning in how they allow their wrath to take them. Even though Bears are more likely to remember their actions while their beast is in control, Tigers have more control over their feral natures. They are the most calculating and ruthless; melding easily with the cold rage in their hearts. These Lycans take their man-beast form from Siberian Tigers.

Lycans and Breeding While most Lycans tend to like to keep their deep dark secret safe to themselves and their own; some will go outside of their kind to find a mate or lover. In these instances, it tends towards being a 50/50 chance of the Lycanthropic curse taking hold of the child if the other parents is a human. If the parent is a witch, they'll either have magic or have the curse - they will not be born with both. Likewise, if two different types of Lycans decide to get together - their child will take after one or the other parent; they will not have a mixture of both natures.
