Mortal Lifespan
Humans are prone to things like diseases, injuries and dying of old age. They are under no circumstance immortal; however, some have tried to achieve this. By magic, they may extend their lifespans to a certain degree. They may also arrange a deal with a demon for this benefit. Regardless, in the end - mortals always prove to be just that. What has come from dust, must to dust return.

Humans & Magic
For humans, magic is something that is available by birth, granted from prayer, or born from a deal with a demon. Humans who are born as witches will find their magical talents between the ages of twelve and fifteen; from that point on, they are under constant pressure to pick a side - even if they may not completely realize it. Magic itself is almost wholly neutral; both sides may utilizes spells of protection, healing, offense and defense. However, there are spells which are completely good, and others which are completely evil. Any magic which draws power or energy from blood - be it that of the caster, a victim, or a willing participant is always seen as evil. Any magic which protects another being from harm is seen as good magic. While a dark witch may have a merit of the light for such a spell, it will not make them wholly good within the casting. However, if any witch of light uses blood magic in any capacity, it may shift them more easily to the sway of the forces of darkness. Furthermore, any witch is able to summon and bind any manner of demon or Fallen Angel; despite this, it is only the wise and best trained who are advised to do so. The Fallen are especially tricky to bind; it can, however, be done. This is also viewed as especially dark magic, all things taken in to account. |
Hunters & Exorcists
Like witches, hunters and exorcists are very much aware of the supernatural world. However, they each have their different purposes in this world. Hunters can be witches, but not all of them wield magic. In fact, most do not. There are sects of hunters who seek out and slay everything from dark witches to vampires, dragons, and lycans. Other sects of hunters concentrate on different cursed species; for instance, those dedicated to hunting vampires have developed myriad means of capturing or dispatching their prey. Likewise, those dedicated to the extermination of lycans have done much the same. A few do seek to 'cure' their ill-fated brethren, as they are aware that these afflictions are curse-made, and often not something that the 'creature' asked for. No cure has ever been, as yet, found and it never shall be; try as they might with the best intentions. Hunters may be both male or female; they may also have been born in to their particular sect, or have stumbled upon the profession on accident. Exorcists, on the other hand, are all consecrated by the Church to specifically hunt and banish demons. A well trained and seasoned veteran of this order is the only type of mortal capable of banishing a high ranking demon or Fallen Angel. While Exorcists are, according to tradition, male; women have also been recently added to the ranks for training due to increased pressure from those more in-tune with the modern world. |
Supernatural Births
Humans are able to breed with certain creatures in the supernatural world. However, this isn't always the most advisable thing in the case of a human mother. Women who give birth to the children of Demons and Angels are known to generally die in childbirth; their bodies simply can not take the stress of such typically violent births. Sometimes, angelic children are not as devastating, if the Angelic father is on hand to help with healing; this isn't always possible, of course. However, the mother of an Angelic child will be guided to Heaven by her mate in the case of her death. |
